Our Lady of Fatima parish centre serves a vital role in supporting the local White City community through a range of activities designed to meet both immediate needs and longer-term community well-being.
Our Monday morning food bank, for example, provides companionship and food support to over 120 households a week who are facing hardship. In addition to food provision the parish centre also hosts weekly events supporting elderly and isolated residents. These include a senior’s coffee morning, exercise & lunch clubs, warm welcome initiatives, sewing & upcycling classes and a community lunch every Saturday. All events are free and open to all members of the local community.
The parish centre renovation project focuses on upgrading the physical condition of this 70-year-old building. We want to create a community hub which is open to all, but currently there are serious accessibility issues, such as a steep entrance ramp and a heavy main door that is difficult for elderly or disabled users to open. The building also has very poor security, which has led to many instances of theft and disruptive intrusions. Many people also struggle to find the building when they first visit – even when they are standing directly outside it! So the new design will make it a much more attractive and easily identifiable building. These changes will allow us to enhance and expand the community services we offer.
The need for this renovation project has been identified from regular feedback from users and volunteers and the impact of recurring operational issues. The structural problems are limiting the centre’s ability to serve the whole wider community safely and effectively. Our Lady
