This project was funded on 15 Oct 2017!

The plan is to introduce children of all ages to literature and storytelling. The theme for the week is "bringing books alive" so the focus will be on storytelling and interactive sessions encouraging children and young people to explore their creative side and get to know more about the magic of literature. There will be a number of sessions throughout the week using various spaces in the Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford. This will also encourage children and their families to visit their local theatre, quite potentially for the first time, and see the wealth of entertainment it has on offer. The hope is to specfically target the local community by ensuring storytelling sessions from across the World exploring cultures and traditions of communites throughout the Borough.

What we'll deliver:

  • Provide storytelling and aouthor talk sessions
  • Keep the admission price as low as possible (at least no more than £3 per session)
  • Secre the future growth of the Festival across the Borough

Why it's a great idea:

The Festival will offer a great opportunity for children and young people to experience the power of storytelling and literature, increasing their understanding of different cultures and communities, firing their imagination and encouraging them to continue to utilise their literary skills.

Steps to get it done:

  • Market the Festival as widely as possible in local media/social media
  • Organise logistics with authors/theatre to ensure their visit runs as smoothly as possible.
  • Produce a Festival brochure, pop ups, flyers and posters
  • Seek out marketing partnerships with local press/magazines/businesses
  • Undertake fundraising activity to raise revenue. Such activity to include grant applications/events
  • Update the Festival website with author details and timings
  • Distribute posters and flyers across Borough/schools etc.
  • Ensure liaison with authors in the run up to, and during the Festival.
  • Ensure the Festival is fully manned and each session is staffed.
  • Obtain publicity material from the authors and deliver to Kenneth More
  • Source the Festival programme including booking authors, timings, content of sessions.

The Festival will take place over the October half term week enabling all family members to get involved.
