More about our impact
The environment
We deliver environmental education to local school groups and we have worked with volunteer groups to improve the green space around the building by planting 500 crocuses and a bee and butterfly friendly border containing lots of sedum and echinacea. We have added a water refill station to the side of the building which our community are now using regularly to reduce the purchase of plastic bottles. Our men's group built a giant bee and bug hotel that was displayed at the Southport Flower Show and won the large Gold Award for encouraging environmental gardening and school grounds.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We have managed to retain 1 full time member of staff and 2 part time staff due to having the Community Centre. We have maintained wide range of volunteering opportunities including Men's Group, Forest Tots and Gardening Club. We have also offered new volunteering opportunities for local businesses. We have been able to continue to provide education via Forest School, Beach School, Forest Tots and working with groups such as Fylde Eco Group and Live Like Ralph.
Arts, culture & heritage
Although the building has only been open for about 5 months we have already held the Live Like Ralph Community Festival, our Summer Skills Festival, Beaverbrooks Be Green Event, Smartphone Free Childhood event, Volunteer Christmas Thank you Event, Willow Sculpture Making, lots of Junior Herbalist Clubs and we are advertising for week long sessions of this during school holidays next year.
Activity, health and leisure
Park View 4U Run Group are using the building 3 times a week for Run group, Smarter Running, Flex and Stretch and additional planning meetings. We are also delivering weekly Yin Yoga from here including a Boxing Day special to raise money for UNICEF. We have delivered taster sessions of Chair Yoga and lots of Skate and Create sessions with Real Skate North West.
