The Kerala Badminton Club (KBC) was established in 2013 at the Poppintree Sports Centre, Ballymun in Dublin. We began our journey with a small group of members, but over time, more people showed interest in joining our club, and we now play from Monday to Friday in the mornings. It has been a historic journey since 2013, and we are proud to report that as of 2024, we have over 180 club members. We promote physical and recreational activity for adults across all age groups, especially those over 55.
Our vision is to promote sports within communities and provide opportunities for individuals to play, grow, and develop their skills and physical activity. There are no barriers to joining our club, and we welcome people from all walks of life. We aim to make our badminton club a platform for social inclusion and community integration, and we have been collaborating with local organisations and stakeholders since our inception. Our club consist of different community groups and conducts activities to attract more students and youths.
Our club members come from all over North Dublin and include children, women, and adult players. We are one of the largest clubs in Leinster Badminton, participating in many local and national events, and we also organise badminton events in the local area.
A significant milestone was achieved in 2021 when we launched the KBC Junior Club in Dublin, offering professional badminton training sessions for children aged eight and under 18. The initial strength of the kids' club was 40, with training provided every Monday from 5 PM to 8 PM. Due to high demand, we decided to add additional sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also extended our training offerings for kids to include Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM, giving them more time to practice and learn new skills.
In addition, we provide specialised training for children with advanced skills, who are graded nationally.
