I will be creating a space for local people of all ages to come and learn to make a quilt from recycled fabrics. This will provide them with specific skills and enable them to create something beautiful and practical. The sessions will run twice a month for 12 months, 24 sessions in total. The space will be in Huddersfield town centre to make it as accessible as possible. The impact of Quilt Huddersfield will be to raise the profile of quilting in Huddersfield and to give people the opportunity to learn how to quilt. I've run workshops before and they've always been popular, this shows there is demand for this resource locally. I will be driving the project and will deliver and lead the sessions, With the money raised I will deliver: 1. Deliver 24 quilting workshops 2. An exhibition of the quilts 3. A focus on reusing and recycling fabric. 4. Enable attendees to pass on specific sewing and quilting skills they've learnt.

What we'll deliver:

  • Deliver 24 in person quilting sessions.
  • Enable a space for local group to use.
  • Enable attendees to make a quilt
  • Final exhibition of quilts

Why it's a great idea:

- Fosters a sense of community and collaboration by bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. - Promotes sustainability and environmental awareness through the reuse of fabrics. - Makes quilting accessible by hosting sessions in a centrally located venue in Huddersfield. - Boosts Huddersfield’s cultural profile by showcasing local creativity through a public quilt exhibition. - Encourages participants to embrace slow crafts, enhancing mindfulness and reducing stress. - Enables intergenerational skill-sharing, preserving traditional crafts. - Creates potential opportunities for entrepreneurship by teaching marketable craft skills. - Supports local economy by potentially sourcing recycled materials from Huddersfield-based businesses.

Steps to get it done:

  • Secure space for 2026
  • Launch marketing for Quilt Huddersfield
  • Quilt Huddersfield exhibition
  • Run monthly classes
  • Secure funding
