More about our impact
The local economy
We have deliberately kept the cost of the badminton sessions to £3 for an hour and a half. The first session is always free and there is no commitment to come every week. The young people come because they have fun and are enjoying playing the sport of badminton.
Volunteering, jobs & education
We now have two volunteer coaches, both of whom have their Level 1/Foundation Badminton Award from Badminton England. They volunteer at least an hour and a half of their time every Sunday morning.
Arts, culture & heritage
The Rossendale Valley has a long history of producing badminton players of repute. The President of the Rossendale league, Peter Wood, was a town and county player of the highest calibre who then went on to play for his country in addition to coaching at county and national level. Peter's father was instumental in getting the sports hall, The Adrenaline, built in Haslingden, which is where the Sunday sessions now take place.
Activity, health and leisure
We have definitely encouraged more children to access the sport through our weekly Sunday morning sessions. The hour and a half continues to be affordable at £3 and fun is our key motivation in all that we do with the children. There is a real identity now at the club, with so many of the players - team and regular members - wearing their green t shirts with pride. Our focus on bringing in more girls has definitely improved with approximately half of the weekly attendees now being female.
