Project Black Jack

The project will replace two statues in the church tower; the originals were "lost" in the 1960s. The Parish Church is a Grade 1building in an iconic location and the new statues will be in bronze

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Rodney Munday is giving a talk on his work, entitled "The Road to Emmaus". Please book by clicking this link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-road-to-emmaus-a-personal-journey-of-discovery-through-art-tickets-154828063907 R odney will be exploring the relationship between realism and abstraction whilst also musing the nature and value of art and Christianity in the modern day. "My aim in these sculptures for the beautiful church of St. John Baptist in Cirencester, is to make a statement about the relevance that St. John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary have within the context of contemporary Christianity. I also wish to affirm the understanding (expressed in the brief) that the Parish Church stands at the spiritual heart of the community. In doing so, I wish to produce contemporary works that are visually interesting, whilst taking care that they do not jar with the ancient structure of the church. The sculpture should appear to be a natural part of that structure, to which they would be complementary." We have hit seventy pledges which is excellent. Thank you for doing your bit. But, please let others know you have pledged so that we can continue to grow and to hit our target. Here's a photo of the lamb at the "wax model" stage in the foundry. It was modelled on the Cotswold Lion and Rodney checked the veracity of the design by bringing a shepherd in to look at it. But from all on the Project Black Jack team, thank you.
