Pride in Priorswood Summer Youth activities are 5 days of fun, low cost events run each week in the summer holidays for the young people of North Taunton.
Pride in Priorswood 2017 is run by a local charity benefiting the community of North Taunton. The weekly events bring the community together to have fun on the local park. Many residents in North Taunton aren't able to get away on holiday or for days out in the summer holidays. This may be due to it being too expensive to go away, or parents not being able to take time off work, or just because entrance fees to other attractions are too high. The 'PiP' days have run for a number of years and are well supported and enjoyed by the local residents. They provide young people with fun days out in the long summer holidays, right on their doorstep. The days are themed so there will be an activity day, a craft day, a sports day and music and games day and a fun day to finish the summer off nicely. We have lots of fun, low cost or free activities for young people to get involved with, whether its making rain shakers, performing karaoke or climbing the 7 metre high climbing wall!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Pride in Priorswood is definitely a great idea! Over the last 8 years the community have come together to enjoy the local area and take part in a wide range of activities, right on their doorstep. It means that the entire community; young people, their friends, families and neighbours can all come together on Lyngford Park to have fun, enjoy the day and all without spending a penny! We will transform the park for the day into a place where everyone can come together to create lasting friendships, community engagement and take part in activities they may otherwise not get the chance to. The events provide an opportunity to get active, play, learn, have fun and also get in touch with local professionals if needed. The local Police beat team attend, as do the police-led 'One Team', the children's centre, the community centre and lots more.
Steps to get it done:
These weekly events are valued by the local community and more financial support is needed to ensure they run in the same way as they have done for the last 8 years. They are so important to the local community as it provides a space for everyone to get together and have fun, transforming the park into a place where families, neighbours and friends can congregate and have a great time for one day a week in the summer holidays.
