The idea

Through photography and film, the young people will coproduce and convey their views and messages to local police officers and members of their community. To convey these messages, an exhibition will be planned, developed, and delivered by the young people and will showcase their community projects. This exhibition will showcase what ASB means to young people, how it affects them, and how they would tackle ASB.

This will be done through a series of weekly, 3 hour long workshops, over a 6 week period. The young people will gain skills in photography, how to take better photographs and learn how to tell a story through an image. In addition, learn about film making and how film makers from around the world have used film to tack societal issues. Lastly, they will learn about project management, planning a community exhibition to showcase their creative projects. The young people will work in a team to organise the exhibition, delegate roles and responsibilities.

What we'll deliver

  • Recruit 8-12 young people from Preston aged 15+ from a range of backgrounds
  • Deliver 3 skills builder workshops
  • Deliver 2 workshops to support the young people to decide which stories to display at the exhibition
  • Deliver 1 exhibition and invite local police, community members, families and peers to.

Why it's a great idea

Building practical sills in photography and film, giving young people a taste of different career paths. Supporting their personal and professional development through social mixing, were young people will engage, learn and capture the perspectives of peers, professionals, VCSFE and public sector organisations.

The young people will learn about project management, budgeting, teamwork and leadership with the hope of inspiring some of these young people to enter the VCSFE sector. and become community leaders.
