Originally started by a few of our local British Cycling Breeze group, we include many ladies who have not ridden their bikes for many years and have enabled them to enjoy getting out into the countryside, gain self-confidence and enjoy the company of others. Currently this is limited to able bodied cyclists but we want to extend this to all users including limited mobility cyclists.
One of our Breeze members has a family member who is a wheelchair user and she realised that the Middlewood Way would be perfect for cycling but it currently has limited accessibility for wheelchairs and adaptive bikes. With a few small changes it would be ideal for this adaptive bike cycling activity: it has an ideal surface for safe for off-road cycling and is flat easy riding. It would provide suitable safe cycling for many miles. Some of these changes have already been made.
In addition to our group of cylcinsts, we have been working with a local countryside ranger, and local town and regional county representatives, we have also had the support and help of British Cycling and Cycling Projects UK.
