St. Chad's Tennis Club has been part of the Poulton-le-Fylde community for over 90 years. Situated in the middle of the Lancashire market town of Poulton it is a small club with 3 courts and a clubhouse.
Our proposal is to install low level floodlighting onto two interconnected all weather tennis courts for the purpose of increasing participation at the club. The aim is to particularly encourage children and working men and women to be able to have access to the club’s facilities outside normal working and school hours on a 12 month a year basis and specifically during autumn and winter months when natural light is short.
The club has taken into account and given a lot of consideration not only to the benefits this proposal will bring to the local community and members of the club but also the impact it may have on the residents of the immediate surrounding area and any possible effects on the environment including any wildlife.
None of these courts enjoy any lighting facility beyond natural light. Until the 2 all weather courts were installed during 2019/20 on previously tarmac based surfaces winter tennis was not possible, but with the benefit of members fund raising the new surfaces have significantly increased member and visitor participation by over 50% and the club is open for play during daylight hours throughout the year.
The aim of the lighting system is to make available better facilities for more playing time for both existing members and in addition potential future members and visitors whose working or school life commitments prevent them from participating in outdoor sport and recreation due to their daytime working hours. This would benefit their wellbeing both physical and mental in a friendly social environment. All players are welcomed whatever their age or experience.
