A ping pong venue providing ping pong sessions, games, tournaments, coaching and a lot of fun to schools, youth clubs, old peoples homes, the homeless, the disabled, mental health organisations, trauma and stroke recovery groups. Basically everyone. Encouraging exercise, participation and social interaction. Improving focus and general mental and physical well being. Also able to travel to deliver workshops and tournaments. I would like to work with the council to obtain enough funding to have multiple tables placed in and around Swansea city for the public to play for free. In the spring/summer I aim to have a mobile pop up ping pong van that can travel to deliver Ping Pong workshops to the homeless, trauma recovery groups, schools, youth clubs, old peoples homes, surfers when there’s no surf. This list goes on because it is such an accessible sport that most people have played at some point in their lives.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The benefits that this project will bring are: 1. Ping pong is scientifically proven to have a positive effect on mental health and well being. 2. Promotes social interaction 3. Creating a healthy space where new friendships can be forged 4. A sense of community for people. 5.It will bring members of the community closer together and inspire them to lead more active and sociable life styles, irrespective of age, ability or background. 6. Affordable activity. 7. A place for local people of all ages to go and play. 8. Local businesses can come and play during lunch breaks and be active after work. 9.Ping pong is cheap and space efficient.
Steps to get it done:
My original idea was to have a mobile ping pong van delivering ping in the community. As we approach the winter months it makes more sense to start by finding a premises to get the project up and running. This premises can then be used as a base camp Head quarters to spread ping in the community.
