The idea
A monthly social group aimed at combating loneliness and isolation, building friendships and providing peer support.
Our sessions will be very informal ‘a cuppa and a chat’ in our safe, positive, welcoming space. Board games and jigsaws will be available and also our little library.
We plan to bring in external services (local groups/CIC’s/guest speakers) to provide a variety of activities such as gentle movement, help with stress and reducing feelings of anxiety, relaxation and meditation, self care. Also some creative crafting sessions such as card making and mdf painting. Service users are welcome to assist with taking care of our plants in our outdoor area if they have an interest in gardening.
We will act upon feedback from service users with the aim to provide them with activities that meet their interests and needs. We aim for our sessions to be inclusive of all attendees no matter their ability level.
What we'll deliver
- 12 pop-up community cafe sessions aimed at our elderly community members
- Health & wellbeing focused activities / guest speaker
- Craft activities
- A safe welcoming space for the elderly within our community to socialise
- Increase in access to our community cupboard (foodbank) where service users can obtain food and hygiene items
- Refreshments
- Little library, jigsaws and board games
Why it's a great idea
Our pop-up community cafe will benefit our service users by boosting feelings of wellbeing, improving mental health, forming new friendships, building confidence in socialising again following the impact of covid and participating in activities together, giving a sense of belonging and involvement within the community.
During the sessions our community cupboard (foodbank) will be open, so service users can access food and hygiene items for a small donation of whatever they can afford. We want to support our community in these difficult financial times and believe nobody should have to choose between heating and eating.
Steps to get it done
- Provide one pop-up community cafe session per month, throughout 2023.
