From the Plum Mission Statement:
The Plum Project is a community-led initiative developed in partnership with the Uniting Church in Garden Lane. The project provides a range of cultural, spiritual and community activities run by a voluntary steering group.
The project operates in an inclusive environment, which has an open door policy to all members of the community, welcoming all that share its values of creating a safe space where the wider community can come together.
Members of the Plum Project steering group are representative of both community and church. Their undertakings are in response to comprehensive feedback from the wider community through questionnaires and focus groups. The group continues to explore, unlock and maximise the potential of the church building through various funding sources.
The Plum Project is building on many years of successful collaboration between church and community. We intend to leave a lasting legacy for the Garden Quarter, helping to make it a brighter and more meaningful place to live.
An Overview of what happens at The Plum:
Plum is a meeting place in the Garden Quarter where the community gather to celebrate, learn and care:
- neighbours encourage community - by meeting for spiritual and secular activities
- there is an inclusive welcome - extending hospitality which nurtures diversity
- there is intentional collaboration - with neighbouring School, churches, University and Cathedral
- neighbours share gifts, skills and experience - which encourages creative, inter-generational engagement, enabling social interaction, overcoming isolation
- hosts local experts - who can be readily accessed for self-development learning in a variety of creative skills, enabling neighbours to expand their knowledge, experience and awaken talents either for professional or personal growth and increased self-esteem
