The idea
Over a 12 week period, there will be 30 students aged 16 - 18 working on a recycling project.
The aim is to inspire youths to see the benefits of social entrepreneurship whilst learning essential digital skills which are needed in their future.
They will produce a product or service, a 30 second advert and a magazine or website, which will all be used in a pitch they will create at the end of the 12 weeks.
We are keen to use underused spaces to allow a breath of creativity, innovation and impact to benefit the very community they are living in.
Some of the workshops covered will include:
- Storytelling
- Introduction to coding
- Social media marketing
- Perfecting public speaking
After this 12 week project, we will then focus on connecting under 25's with a foundation of marketing experience, with a 12 week workshop where they will up skill their digital knowledge, create a portolio, and connect with SME's.
What we'll deliver
- Accessing workshop practitioners
- Refurbishing space
- Renting space
- Physical equipment
Why it's a great idea
Empowering young people - We want to up skill youths with relevant skills to make them more employable, and accountable for the direction of their lives.
Addressing digital poverty - Accessibility to learning digital skills will either come with a heavy price tag, a requirement of resources or even the knowledge that this exists. These skills should be made available to learn to as many people as possible.
Engaging with the community - Millennials in particular have a branding of being lazy and disengaged. We want to show how mentors from this generation can support those younger them to make an impact and inspire others to continue to do so.
