The Latest from Place2Play
Based in five boroughs across London (Brent, Ealing, LBH&F, RBKC and Wandsworth), Place2Play has been bringing free and inclusive activities to families in their local park spaces, community centres and schools over the course of the past year. Successfully delivering a minimum of two 1½ hour sessions in each of the boroughs Place2Play has given parents a safe and welcoming environment to bring their children to, to play sports together at a time which is convenient to them.
Reaching over 150 participants, we have efficaciously exceeded targets suggested by funders despite the absence of the expected sports England funding and have maximised the projects effectiveness by partnering up with Sporting organisations, Churches, Schools, Health care professionals and community centres who has provided support with promotion, volunteers, facilities and coaching advice.
By providing access to online resources and by acting as a link to other community activities and local initiatives, we have effectively built a friendly community for the parents and careers whereby they are supported and equipped to continue to actively engage in their child/rens development and sports experiences, whilst keeping themselves active. Thus effectively creating a sustainable foundation for the project and building upon the Place2Play legacy.
Finally, reflecting upon other aspects of the project it is important to note the efforts made increase levels of physical activity whilst without negatively impacting the environment. As we have we not only encouraged our participants to cycle or walk to each session, but we have also made sure that our Place2play leaders on board too. Therefore creating an all-round greener way to play!
