The idea

Phoenix Farm, in White City, is a cherished community space spanning 3/4 of an acre. This award-winning farm features communal growing areas, glasshouses, vegetable beds, a small orchard, chickens, and beehives, maintained using organic principles. With a pond and wildlife-friendly planting, the farm invites biodiversity while fostering local engagement. Offering 3 weekly volunteer sessions and 2 family drop-ins, participants can dig, grow, and harvest while learning about sustainable food. Local schools and holiday play schemes enjoy enriching visits, and annual events such as Spring on the Farm, Apple Day, Harvest Festival, and wreath-making workshops bring the community together. These activities, alongside skill-sharing workshops, create spaces for learning and connection. Since 2009, Phoenix Farm has been a cornerstone for local residents, volunteers, and families, and with your support, we aim to continue providing free access to these invaluable experiences for the year ahead.

What we'll deliver

  • 20 visits to classes from local schools
  • 120 volunteer sessions and 52 drop in session for local families
  • 3 community events
  • 9 play activity days for local families and 4 trips

Why it's a great idea

There is lots of evidence supporting the physical and mental health benefits of gardening. The media is full of stories about the disconnect between the food we eat and how it is produced. At Phoenix Farm in White City people of all ages can take take part and learn new skills. For many of our volunteers the opportunity to socialise whilst giving back to the local community is very important.
