Students exposed to education systems within the UK have become accustomed to curriculum-based learning from a young age. To capitalise on this, we are utilising a curriculum broadened into five key headings – Gurbani Vidya, Raag Vidya, Shaster Vidya, Fitness & Education. Within these 5 headings come hundreds & in most cases, thousands of lessons. By facilitating thought-provoking & engaging classes, we aim to teach the importance of looking after the mind, body & soul. Every teacher is carefully chosen to maximise efficiency & all teachers, supervisors & volunteers are enhanced DBS checked. In addition to this, we aim to provide for the elderly of the community. For this, we would have a streamlined timetable for the over 40’s with opportunities to interact. Whilst we really value the interaction between a teacher & student, an online medium is essential. This is why it is in the plans to have a ‘virtual academy’ to allow students to benefit from home-based learning.

What we'll deliver:

  • Website - www.p6academy.co.uk
  • Virtual academy hosted on www.p6academy.co.uk
  • 5 weekly regional classes in Wolverhampton
  • Admissions packs
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Equipment and apparatus

Why it's a great idea:

P6 Academy will provide opportunities for learning & teaching by becoming a safe space for the exchange of knowledge & wisdom. From highly skilled musicians teaching classical music to undergraduates tutoring, P6 Academy provides opportunities for community members to interact. The classes are streamlined to focus on the enhancement of interpersonal skills to actualise the potential of students within one local community hub. As we have seen with COVID-19, when we are not occupied by schooling/work, it is hard to find ways to stay engaged. With the planning of a revolutionary learning management system, a comprehensive and engaging curriculum will be specially crafted for online users. This will allow access to vast amounts of knowledge and resources, providing a fantastic tool for home-based learning. Students attending regional classes could use this tool to supplement their learning while new students will be able to utilise an innovatively designed platform to begin learning.

Steps to get it done:

  • Produce admissions packs for students
  • Design and create a website
  • Develop curriculums
  • Source teachers
  • Create and distribute flyers/posters to the local community
  • Use media channels such as radio, social media & digitised billboards to inform community
  • Design and create a 'virtual academy' within website

To ensure social mobility, all Sikh arts-based classes are provided free of charge; however, to ensure the maintenance & sustainability of the academy, there is a charge applied to certain services, i.e. tuition. In addition to this, we aim to continue to host empowerment camps, events & charitable initiatives. This allows us to network with other like-minded organisations to achieve a common goal of social inclusion. An example of our work is the social campaign #IAMACHILDOFTHEGURU (video above). By teaching the youth principles such as truth, compassion, patience & contentment, we aim to deter anti-social behaviour. By acting in a preventative manner, P6 Academy seeks to safeguard the religious freedoms of the Sikh faith. Ultimately, P6 Academy empowers students to provide positive externalities for society.
