Outdoor exercise is good for everyone. We want to provide facilities to encourage people to increase their physical activity to improve their wellbeing and tackle our growing waistlines! We know that going to a gym or exercise class fills some people with horror. Equipment that encourages the least active to have a go, in their local environment, without pressure to perform is the way to go. The Broadfield Community Centre is a vibrant thriving resource; we welcome hundreds of people every week. Children's play equipment has recently been installed and we want to provide an opportunity for adults to exercise.

What we'll deliver:

  • Purchase outdoor gym equipment
  • Install outdoor gym equipment

Why it's a great idea:

The outdoor gym equipment will be strategically placed in areas where people are most likely to see it. We want to use the nudge theory to encourage the community the use the equipment. The nudge theory works on the same principle as leaving biscuits on the table- if it is easily accessible, people will help themselves. Therefore if we have gym equipment on our grounds placed by our children's play area people may be tempted to have a go. We want to encourage people to exercise in order to tackle the effects of obesity, as weight gain and general inactivity have a negative effect on wellbeing. Outdoor gym equipment provides the same benefits as visiting a gym but with the added bonus of being free and in the fresh air.

Steps to get it done:

  • Purchase the equipment
