To empower the local community to take an active role in their area. Bringing the community together in creative and active sessions making the Fosse area cleaner and greener.
The core element of this project is the forming of the Cleaner Green Fosse Group and the facilitation of the 6 yoga and litter picking sessions. These sessions will be delivered with an aim to develop inspiration and encourage people to look after their local environment. To guarantee a wide reach, we will organise Our Planet poster making sessions at two local schools. The first step to positive change is imagining it. The poster making activity encourages families to imagine their local area as more environmentally friendly. Posters made in the sessions will be exhibited at Fosse Library and local businesses. Everyone will be invited to take part in the Cleaner Greener Fosse Group sessions on Sat. The Fosse Library will become the hub for the Group to meet, have refreshments, make plans, store their equipment and as the meeting point to set off for their sessions with the yoga practitioner.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
After the Cleaner and Greener Group sessions the environment of the Fosse area will be improved and shows the community the potential that they have to take ownership over continuing these positive adjustments. It not only improves the physical space but empowers residents to make positive changes, gives confidence and ownership over their locality and to take pride in their community. This project creates a core group that engages in the continuous activity of regular litter picking sessions which could expand their area to cover other sites in Fosse. Working with school groups encourages a young generation to adopt care for their environment and opening up the project to all generations has the benefit of building a truer and fuller community dynamic. Engaging local schools creates stronger ties to their wider community and place which makes them feel more connected to the area and gives opportunities to explore new partnerships.
Steps to get it done:
In these sessions we will discuss ways to care for your local environment and how together we can do a little bit extra to make Fosse cleaner and greener in fun, active, outdoor ways. Working with professional artists is a very important part of the project because after having positive and creative experiences, participants can begin to develop a new creative outlook on their place and how they have opportunities to make a difference. We would like to empower the local community to take an active role in their area. It is very important to involve the community creatively in the process of change - change for a cleaner and greener Fosse. Additionally, this project will have the free base at Fosse Library which is essential for making this project sustainable. We would like to see in the future that the idea of having a walk with a litter picker is a normal local activity, not oddity.
