Our Bus is " Our Bus" because it's our bus. A bus for us. A safe, welcoming space for all ages travelling in and around Hull and parts of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The beauty of a bus is that it can move. It's not stuck in one place. You don't have to travel to get to it. It can travel to you. And it can travel across borders. Go beyond the things that divide. Like lines on maps. And postcodes. In its previous life Our Bus was a youth bus. So inside it's an ideal social space with a small kitchen, cafe-style area and room for people to hang out, make things, play music, whatever. It's an incredible community resource with all sorts of possibilities. So it's about rest. Recovery. Healing. Acceptance. Hospitality. Creativity. Freedom. Beauty. Humour. Love But we need to get it on the road! A lot of work has already been done, for the minimum of costs but we now need to meet a larger than expected insurance premium, and some mechanical bits to get through the MOT.

What we'll deliver:

  • The bus will be ready to go
  • We will head off into communities over the summer
  • We will seek different funding/enterprise streams for the longer term

Why it's a great idea:

Last year's City of Culture gave our city a real boost and left us wanting more. We particularly want to see more people being given the opportunity to enjoy great hospitality, try something new and get creative even! Our Bus takes away 2 potential barriers to this - lack of resources (bus fares into town, admission costs etc) and a lack of confidence (recognising that something is open to everyone, of all experiences or none. Our us will park up in a community and simply ask people to get on board on their own doorstep, and we're excited to see what will happen!

Steps to get it done:

  • Pay for insurance
  • complete the inside refurbishment
  • get the mechanical work done
  • pass the MOT
  • Head out!
