OsNosh CIC is committed to tackling food poverty and food waste. We take a holistic community-based approach to this challenge, using these issues as a tool to build and unite community, improve people’s mental health and well being and develop a more positive sustainable attitude to food and the food cycle. This is achieved through projects involving the creative cooking and redistribution of surplus food, the cultivation of urban garden spaces and educational outreach.
Community Kitchen and Café - An open to all ‘Pay-As-You-Feel’ service utilising surplus food. We serve creative nutritious hot meals and provide access to surplus groceries at our food share tables, alongside community-led physical and mental wellbeing activities. We work with other organisations to ensure those most in need are made aware of our service and reiterate that it can be free.
Cookery School - Working collaboratively to teach cooking skills and build confidence in the kitchen, for minimising cost, reducing waste, and nurturing creative cooking. We aim to build self-esteem, confidence and independence - especially for those in food poverty, disengaged or constrained by physical or mental health.
Community Growing spaces – Our award-winning work in urban growing has transformed underused areas with sustainable gardening methods. This includes local school gardens and our own rooftop garden at The Centre. We re-green under-used spaces to create a place for our community to connect, grow produce and engage with their local food system and reap the physical and mental health benefits of connecting with nature.
