SPACE's mission is to be the a leading, innovative organisation for engagement with and development of creative practice. This includes supporting artists throughout their careers, increasing the diversity of creative practitioners, delivering public programmes and ensuring artists are valued at the heart of society.
Set up in 1968 by Bridget Riley and other leading artists, SPACE is now home to over 700 artists, including Turner Prize winners, emerging artists and many more, in 18 affordable studio buildings, across 7 London boroughs. Another 700 artists are supported annually throgh professional development including exhibitions, residencies, bursaries, training and much more. SPACE's Learning team works with over 500 pupils and young people annually with programmes to develop the creative potential of young people and engage them with art. SPACE has been a pioneering supporter of art and artists engaged with technology, with UK and international residencies, school programmes, talks, screenings and events hosted in two art and technology dedicated spaces - The White Building and SPACE MediaLab.
