By Chester Swimming Association
To raise £10k to cover energy, labour & teacher training costs to open the training pool, thereby increasing the number of children and others who gain confidence in the water by learning to swim.
This fund-raising project is re-open the Chester City Baths training pool to increase the number of swimming teachers and provide more capacity to teach children to swim. Opening this facility will: Enable more children and young people to have a better start in life. Create more jobs Support healthier communities It is intended that a number of these places will be free of charge to children eligible for free school meals. So far over 50% of the total required has been raised and we need your help to raise start-up funds to cover energy, labour & teacher training costs to get the training pool fully open and running. We are hoping to secure around £10,000 through this Spacehive crowd-funding session and specifically need our supporters to help us do this!
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
It is important that all children have that essential life-skill, the ability to swim, especially in a city that has both the river Dee and Shropshire Union Canal running through it, and is located close to the coast of North Wales and North-west England. With only one pool open, the time available for children’s swimming-lessons has been halved from pre-Covid times, so this project aims to return to the situation that existed before the pandemic by increasing the number of local children who can be taught to swim. This will be achieved by a combination of more teachers and more pool-time, while making lessons available to some children who are eligible for free school-meals.
