Quench is an artist-led project space and gallery in Margate, Kent. We offer a space for a diverse range of emerging visual artists and curators from across the UK the opportunity to develop and showcase new artwork, while enabling them to engage with new audiences from the local area.
We are a not-for-profit venture that was founded in response to the reduced number of paid opportunities for artists, caused or exacerbated by the Pandemic. Over 2022, through the sale of editions and arts council funding, we managed to put on 13 exhibitions and 3 performance events. In addition to this, all profits from any sales went directly to the artists that put on the shows.
Founders Guy Oliver and Lindsey Mendick believe that it is vital to give back directly to the community that has been a great support to them. Especially in these times when funding is being cut and the cost of living is so high. It's been a very busy year and we want to continue this vital support to emerging artists. In 2023 we hope to continue to facilitate artists from a wide range of backgrounds develop their practice through exhibition opportunities & mentorship. We also house a public programme of events and workshops to engage both young and old, as well as people who are familiar and unfamiliar with gallery environments.
