The idea
We want to raise £15,000 to purchase a van to address both the immediate need for food and the broader challenges of isolation and health inequality. The Community Outreach Mobile Shop will have a lasting, transformative effect on the lives of those we serve. We are confident that, with the right support and resources, this initiative will significantly reduce food poverty bringing food directly to those who need it most, in a way that respects their dignity, privacy, and choice in our diverse community and help create a more connected, resilient, and healthy society.
During our initial outreach efforts, we were able to meet the needs of thousands of people in food poverty who could not visit our food hubs. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, but unfortunately, the funding that supported our vehicles and outreach operations dried up during the COVID-19 pandemic. With no financial resources to maintain or replace the outreach vehicles, we were forced to suspend the program.
What we'll deliver
- Community Outreach Mobile shop
- Surplus Food at a reduced cost
Why it's a great idea
The project will address multiple layers of food poverty, isolation, and health inequality, creating a lasting, positive impact on the community. The Mobile Shop will significantly enhance food access by providing fresh, nutritious surplus food to those in food poverty, doubling the number of people served each week. It will efficiently reduce food waste while promoting healthy eating and improving overall health. By offering a private and dignified food selection experience, the shop will remove the stigma often associated with receiving assistance. Additionally, it will foster social interaction, improve mental well-being, and empower individuals by allowing them to choose their own food. The service will be inclusive, simplifying the process for neurodiverse individuals, while also offering meaningful volunteer opportunities that build community engagement and support. The mobile shop will be responsive to urgent needs and connect individuals with other vital social services.
