The idea

The derelict bank and street beside Pioneer House (behind The Timepiece) is an unpleasant space in our town which is overgrown and collects rubbish and worse.

Volunteers can clear and develop this area into a pleasant garden next to a classic cobbled street. The terraced garden would grow fruit bushes and herbs which can be harvested by residents. People can stop and appreciate a small transformed green space in the town centre.

What we'll deliver

  • Continue to maintain the area by voluntary action.
  • Install a wind break at the top of the bank.
  • Terrace the bank, turn the ground and fill up with top soil.
  • Clean and repair the cobbled area.
  • Clear the derelict area of rubbish and undergrowth
  • Supply and plant fruit bushes and herbs.

Why it's a great idea

The location is right next to Pioneer House which is being restored and will become a popular attraction. This small rejuvenated spot will become much more public and no longer detract from the improvements nearby.

It will be a community developed and maintained space which makes a statement about our concern for our town.

Steps to get it done

  • Regular volunteer working parties.
