North London Aquatics are a community project with clear plans to rebuild a deep water pool with a moveable floor - a much needed community asset.
The current pool is the only deep water pool in the Borough of Barnet and will close in 2019. Barnet Council have allocated a piece of land to the project adjacent to the new Barnet Copthall swim centre.
Our new pool will be a ground-breaking facility offering over FIFTY aquatic activities, appealing to all ages and abilities (see list below). By having a moveable floor it means we are able to offer both shallow and deep water activities. Our aim is to encourage more people to get fit and active and there will be specialist equipment for people with disabilities – an inclusive facility, the first of its kind in the UK.
By digging deep into your pockets to support our campaign, you'll contribute to the first phase of making this facility a reality, enabling us to gain a clear idea of funds needed to build our pool.
What we'll deliver:
- Build an inclusive deep water pool with moveable floor
- Provide over FIFTY aquatic activities for all abilities
- A unique community project and asset for Barnet and the future of Sport in the Capital
- Include everyones ideas and put deepwater sport on the map again
Why it's a great idea:
This project has the power to make a huge impact on disability water sports in our community and far beyond. We will be the only facility in the North London region offering multiple user groups the opportunity to use the centre and to excel in their chosen discipline. A young diver on our squad who trains in the current pool just won a gold medal at national level!
We already have an extensive list of user groups waiting to sign up to use the pool; diving, synchro, underwater rugby and water polo to name but a few. We are building strong links with local charities to offer the use of the pool for rehabilitation / palliative and therapeutic groups.
Our inclusive aim will allow access for both individual or team sport for people with disabilities including specialist changing rooms, support equipment, full wheelchair access and qualified instructors.
We aim to work with hard to reach youth groups in order to promote a more active lifestyle.
Steps to get it done:
- COMPLETE PHASE 1 (PLAN) & 2 (FUNDRAISE) AND INSTRUCT TO BUILD
- BUSINESS PLAN / FEASIBILITY STUDY COMPLETE
- SELECT A CONTRACTOR
- PLANNING PERMISSION
- MANAGEMENT CONTRACT
- SECURE USER GROUPS
- OPEN THE POOL
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT and can’t wait to PROVIDE over FIFTY AQUATIC ACTIVITIES!
