The idea
Like so many more smaller communities, there have been no facilities in our village for those of secondary school years to go to when not at school
The North Leigh youth project, addresses that major community need by providing a dedicated space where local youngsters can regularly 'hang out' together and do fun activities under supervision.
It is a project that has been welcomed by all in ours and the surrounding villages and more importantly the youngsters who it sets out to serve.
However such a project is needs funds - not just to set up but to maintain. It is a project that is constant and on-going; there is no point getting it up and running if it has to close a few years later because funding has dried up.
What we'll deliver
- Twice weekly plus supervised sessions for up to 100 youngsters from our area
- A set of facilities and resources to provide a safe fun environment for yuo9ngsters attending
Why it's a great idea
We are the only open Youth Club with a purpose built Youth Centre in the vicinity of Witney. Since there launch of the Youth Project in 2014 the nuisance and minor criminal damage caused by young people in the vicinity of the Memorial Hall has ceased.
Government cuts to Youth Services have seen many youth clubs close with disastrous results for young people and communities. The increasing violence we hear about in schools and the prevalence of mental health problems among young people highlight the need for youth clubs to guide and help young people through their formative and very impressionable years. The Youth Project provides this very valuable function in the parish of North Leigh equipping our young people to become responsible and caring members of our community.
Steps to get it done
