Replacement and upgrade of children's play equipment at the recreation ground, to improve safety and enjoyment of Poulton's residents and visitors.
The Recreation Ground is a lovely green space in the heart of Poulton, adjacent to the Village Hall. For many years it has been used by generations of children living in the village, as well as by visitors to Poulton. It has a variety of play equipment, as well as an open green that is used for field games and picnics. Sadly, a recent H&S inspection recommended that the largest and most popular piece of equipment, the "twin towers" was no longer safe due to age and deterioration, and has subsequently been removed from the site. The same inspection identified that another apparatus, the "adventure trail" was also reaching the end of its life and will need replacing. This project will allow us to replace these pieces of equipment, while also adding a basketball hoop with a surrounding all-weather surface for older children. This will dramatically improve the recreational experience for the many families who live in the village as well as visiting grandchildren and other visitors.

This project will massively increase the recreational experience available in Poulton for the many children and families living in the village, as well as for other visitors to our village, be they grandchildren, tourists or other friends and visitors using our two village pubs, the Gilbertine Cafe, the cricket and/or football clubs, or the numerous AirBnb properties in the village. This will be achieved firstly by replacing previous much-enjoyed old equipment that sadly needs to be replaced for health & safety reasons, with modern, improved apparatus. Secondly, we will be adding a basketball unit with surrounding all-weather playing surface which will appeal to and attract older children (and adults!). Altogether, this will foster an even stronger community in Poulton by creating a focal point in the heart of the village for children and families to gather to play together and enjoy this lovely open outdoor space adjacent to the village hall; as well as attracting new visitors.
