New Performance Hub in Mayfair

Danceworks By Danceworks

To create a new grassroots theatre-style performance space within an existing basement studio and lounge area of Danceworks for all art forms with discounted rates to community projects

City of Westminster Delivery stage

pledged of £27,016

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

Danceworks already works intensively in the local community and across London providing affordable dance to all ages and cultures. We wish to create a new grassroots cultural venue which would specifically offer low cost performance and rehearsal space to young people and adults in the area and beyond who are expressing themselves through the dance, music and other arts that require a safe affordable space.

What we'll deliver:

  • A wonderful intimate performance space available every weekend evening
  • Opportunities for aspiring performers to have an audience
  • Enhancing the grassroots cultural landscape in Mayfair

Why it's a great idea:

We are passionate about our mission to make dance and the performing arts accessible for people regardless of background in our friendly, inclusive environment. We are particularly focused on disadvantaged young people and the huge benefits that the arts - particularly dance and music - can bring to them, often making the difference in their life choices. This new theatre/performance space will provide a bespoke professional environment in our renowned and prestigious studios.

Steps to get it done:

  • Replacement of existing glass wall with glass sliding doors + refurbishment of the existing studio/ theatre lighting.

The work that would be required to create this space is to make some internal changes to what currently exists. This would entail removing an existing glass wall between our recently refurbished member’s lounge and (lower level) large basement studio and replacing it with floor to ceiling glass sliding doors that could be opened for events, plus the installation of ‘bleacher’ seating and theatrical lighting in the studio.
