New Papers is a bi-monthly magazine of fiction and poetry. The launch of each issue is accompanied by a recital, where all pieces in the magazine are presented in front of an audience.
We are a registered CIC with a mission to disseminate new literature, as well as to create a space where literature can interact with the other arts (namely, at our recitals, where music, literature, and theatre all come together). Printing magazines is seldom a profitable venture, and we aim to keep costs low so that community members can engage with New Papers to the fullest extent possible. We do not currently get close to breaking even, and we charge £10 per magazine and £8 for entry to our recitals. We (our team) have powered the project out of our own pockets thus far, but this isn't sustainable in the long term. With funding, we could rent a space in H&F for future recitals and print more magazines, which we could then distribute at a much lower price (hopefully free!). We could also begin to pay contributors, who are now writing for free. We aim to create a forum where community members can contribute and be paid for their work, and are able to then expose their work to their fellow community members at as accessible a price as possible.
