The idea
We are all creative – but not everyone gets an opportunity to explore their creativity. We want to change that.
New Brewery Hearts is a movement to give 1200 hours of funded creativity, crafting and making opportunities each year to people in our community currently unable to afford to be creative. We will offer fully-funded places on classes, courses and workshops at New Brewery Arts to those who need it the most but can access it least.
We’ll partner with local front-line charities to reach those who can benefit from creativity, joy and wellbeing the most.
What we'll deliver
- 1200 hours of funded creative classes and workshops at New Brewery Arts
- Collaboration with front-line charities to reach those in genuine need
- Offer our community a wide range of creative classes in craft and art
Why it's a great idea
Taking part in a creative group activity has many proven benefits from health and wellbeing to growing a feeling of belonging.
Health and wellbeing
When creating and making our brains produce the happy chemical (dopamine), making us feel happier and boosting our sense of wellbeing
Art can help us to emotionally navigate the journey of battling an illness or injury, or to process difficult emotions in times of emergency and challenging events. Through creativity you gain transferable skills such as design, planning, complex thinking, and resilience building through problem-solving
Social cohesion
Developing connections within your community is a vital part of being human, classes help meet new people from diverse backgrounds
Thinking creatively about the world helps us understand and communicate concepts and emotions by drawing on all our senses and capacity for empathy

We have previously offered free spaces on our courses and classes to those who needed it most, (funded by grants). Here’s what participants said
“Being able to attend a workshop provides me with a focus and a structure to my week which I need to help my self-esteem and the social isolation I have experienced.”
"By doing this [course] I get physiotherapy in my wrist and this movement helps my joints to work and to build up muscles. This course has helped me in so many ways – confidence and finding new friends”
"I am passionate about ceramics – it fits in around my responsibilities as a single parent and my chronic health condition (ME). Pottery is the one bit of ‘me time’ I have every week and it keeps me sane. It challenges me and gives me a sense of achievement."
"As a disabled person on benefits, I could never have afforded this experience, it’s made me feel worthy of something special. It’s made me feel someone believes in me."
