More about our impact
The environment
Our project has recycled pallet border donated from a local business that would have otherwise gone to landfill. We supported 2 other local organisations by donating spare pallet borders to them to support their garden projects. We were also able to plant our used Christmas tree during one of our Nature Nook sessions. We then decorated the tree outside during our last session of 2025 to celebrate Christmas having a ‘Polar Express’ theme for the session with Hot chocolate, marshmallows and Christmassy crafting. Using freshly cut tree cuttings from a staff member’s garden we created Christmas wreaths.
The local economy
Nature Nook, as a preventative wellbeing project, has helped reduce potential pressure on health, education, and social care services by supporting emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience at an early stage. By improving participants’ wellbeing and skills, the project has also strengthened pathways into education, volunteering, and employment, contributing to longer-term economic participation and community resilience.
Volunteering, jobs & education
Five volunteers supported the project with cleaning and maintenance of the garden and marketing of the project. Giving over 60 hours of voluntary hours.
Arts, culture & heritage
Nature Nook has supported the arts, culture, and heritage sector by creating opportunities for creative expression rooted in nature and local identity. Through nature-based crafts, sensory art, and seasonal activities, participants engaged with traditional skills and cultural practices linked to the natural environment
Activity, health and leisure
Nature Nook has promoted activity, health, and leisure by creating inclusive, low-pressure opportunities for people to be active outdoors in a supportive environment. Through gardening, nature exploration, creative outdoor tasks, and sensory activities, participants increased their physical movement in ways that felt accessible and enjoyable. The project supported mental health and emotional wellbeing by encouraging time in green space, social connection, and mindful engagement with nature. By modelling positive leisure activities that can be continued independently or with family, Nature Nook has helped participants build healthy habits and confidence to engage in ongoing physical and community-based activities.
