The idea

We have been running a live steam miniature railway beside the Methodist Church in Nantwich for the last 10 years and raised over £15000 for various childrens charities. We need to raise £5000 for a coach which is designed to carry wheel chairs. Cromar White manufacture a coach which meets our requirements and we need to raise £5000 pounds to cover the cost of the coach. Currently, we cannot offer train rides to anyone in a wheelchair and we would like to extend our services to everyone. Please help us provide more happiness to children of all ages.
The purpose of the project is to obtain a coach suitable for people who use wheelchairs to ride on the train.
Customer Testimonial
“At Leyland we have a Cromar White wheel chair truck. I personally thought it would be a waste of time but I was completely wrong. The amount of good will and good publicity it generates is unbelievable. We have several families who come regularly for a ride and the look on their faces says it all.

What we'll deliver

  • A service to wheelchair users.
  • An ability to carry small children in buggies and prams
  • Special trains for wheelchair events

Why it's a great idea

The main benefit will be to extend our services to anyone in a wheelchair. The frame and bodywork are constructed from steel and the folding loading ramps are constructed from aluminium checker plate.

Adjustable ramp supports provide additional support when loading or unloading. The ramps when upright are secured with anti lose fixings. Six tie down loops are fitted for wheelchair or pram securing.

The folding seats are waterproof and the bench seat is furniture grade foam, covered in waterproof PVC material.

The coaches will negotiate 6096mm(20′) radius curves with ease (subject to correct coupling arrangement). Overall length is 2.75M (9’) width 762mm (30″).

Steps to get it done

  • obtain funding
  • specify and order coach
  • install coach on railway

We have been asked to help children (of all ages) with leaning issues who would like to benefit from new experiences and we cannot do this without a coach which is adapted for this purpose.
