My Memories Caught on Camera - Church St

Our project is about allowing locals from within Church Street communities to explore the fond memories they have growing up & living in the area, creatively capturing these moments with a camera.

The idea

We will work with small groups of 5 plus staff/volunteers in bubbles (pending Covid-19 latest restrictions), and travel to parts of the city where the project members feel connected - for example, it might be a park where they spent time playing with loved ones when they were growing up. It allows each participant to capture their own unique moment(s) through the camera lens, telling a story.

The aim is to be able to allow everyone to gain skills in photography and film and grow confident in using them as a way of reflection and communicating with others.

We believe everyone has a story to tell and share.

We are highly respected and established across Westminster, since 2006 with over 100 registered members in the Church Street area and further 114 plus across other areas of Westminster. It is a fantastic foundation to start this project off, as we have shared and consulted 33% of our users about the concept with and it's been welcomed the idea.

What we'll deliver

  • Photography and Videography Training
  • Showcasing the Creative Moments captured - Gallery Viewing
  • Providing Digital Cameras
  • Refreshments
  • Travel

Why it's a great idea

This project will focus on young people, but will be open to any adults whom may wish to take part.

The core participants will come from Church Street but we plan to run two projects for two groups across Westminster. Therefore the benefiting participants will be reaching the community and local business.

The togetherness of Church Street will be demonstrated by locals promoting their photos or footage in many ways socials, media - empowering young people to share their stories.

We hope will help with loneliness, metal health and wellbeing as well as building new friendship. Bringing our community people together from all diverse and social backgrounds, creating a more inclusive community especially at a time like now with equality issues and conflict.

Lockdown, has affected us all, increasing young people mental health as well as the adults / families with unemployment rising each and every week and Covid-19 causing many to have metal breakdown. The project will help.
