Our Big Gig at Centre NE, Whitchurch is FREE to attend. As well as music on the stage, we will be hosting:
• drumming workshops
• DJ workshops
• activities and crafts
Food and drink will also be available as well as a great festival atmosphere.
This event is taking place on the ball court at the back of Centre NE and the activities and refreshments will be in the building. Centre NE has hosted youth clubs since 1970 and not only will local musical talent recognise this great work, but we are calling on everyone to come and celebrate ‘youthy’ with us through Our Big Gig.
We will bring together a wide range of ages from the community to celebrate Centre NE, youth work through the years and fantastic local music talent.
What we'll deliver:
- art & craft activities - henna tattooing, T-shirt printing and more
- deliver an Our Big Gig celebration of community music
- refreshments available
- DJ workshop
- drumming workshop
- musical acts performing on the stage throughout the event
- put together a photographic timeline of Centre NE over the last 45 years
- Work with local schools and businesses to make this a whole-town event
Why it's a great idea:
Since 2013, over 380,000 people have attended 520 Our Big Gig events which have seen a wide variety of musical activities take place in a range of unusual spaces.
Working with local young people we want to build on that success to once again put on a music based event in Whitchurch that people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy.
This will be the third year that Whitchurch is hosting an Our Big Gig event. We have decided to combine it with a celebration of all the fabulous work that has taken place at Centre NE over the last 45 years and ask people to bring their memories, photographs and tales of the Centre to add to a celebratory timeline.
Young people who currently attend 'Youthy' will be hosting the event, organising the refreshments and running the arts and crafts activities.
This event is for everyone, if you used to attend the Centre, if you attend Youthy now or you have never been; come along and celebrate with us.
Steps to get it done:
- Centre NE have an organising group working together to make the event happen
- Local musicians have offered to take part
- We will draw on and add to our experience of hosting a similar event in 2014
- We will use social media and the local press & radio to recruit more acts and to publicise the event
- Licenses and insurance will be provided
- The team are organising musical acts, workshop providers, booking a stage & PA equipment as well as a compere
- We are working with young people
