The idea

Drumcondra is a bustling community in Dublin city, and at the heart of this vibrant neighbourhood is the ABC Drumcondra centre. Locals
meet here for delicious food and great chats, children come to play
and dance, and artists come to create and feel inspired.
To celebrate this spirit, we organised for Drumcondra's very own
local artist Chris Judge to help create a beautiful mural to help
brighten up the centre and the local community.

As a local resident, I thought the mural would be a great idea. Together with Nessa McNamara, who owns and runs Little Learners preschool and after-school that operates behind the wall, we petitioned local residents and organized a community day between locals and Chris, to bring a collaborative spirit to the project.

The art work will be printed on 4 aluminium coated panels and will measure 450cm x 160cm each.

We believe this artwork will add to the cultural fabric of Drumcondra and have had great buy in from community, already raising €5000.

What we'll deliver

  • A mural on St Joseph's Avenue, Drumcondra, Dublin 9

Why it's a great idea

Add colour and vibrancy to St Joseph's Ave, Drumcondra. This is a busy street, as many people use it to enter the ABC Building.

his is a joint project between Chris, the local residents and the ABC
centre - with special recognition to Little Learners, whose children line the street every morning on their way to school and are the real inspiration behind the project.

We really believe that this mural will make the street more welcoming, inclusive and friendly; for the children on their way to school, for the local residents and for everyone who enjoys the wonderful ABC centre, in the heart of Drumcondra.

The community day was brilliant, and local people contributed to the design. On their recommendation, the final version is very green and includes local heritage, monuments and sights of important cultural significance. It also promotes the local businesses operating in the ABC and reflects the people that use it.

Steps to get it done

  • Community day to unveil the mural

We really believe it will lift the local community and tie in with the pocket park around the corner on St. Anne's Road, further fostering a sense of local community spirit. We also hope it will encourage people to take pride in the street and local area. Fly tipping has become an issue on the street. We believe that this mural will show the pride people have in the place, and promote a cleaner neighbourhood.
