By Ferring Funtime Community Pre-School
We want to transform the storage area in our pre-school into a multi-functional classroom space for children with special educational needs
We need your help to raise £10,000 for our Pre-School which is a charity run school for 2-4 year olds with no outside funding, and is an intrinsic part of the community as it provides a childcare setting for the surrounding areas. Children from the area thrive in this environment, and we wish to enhance their experience with this project Our preschool has one purpose built room, with additional outdoor space. The challenge to us is to differentiate areas and activities that challenge both our very young children as well as our older children. We are currently looking for funding to enclose a rear storage area to provide a multifunctional space for the children of the pre-school. We anticipate using this space for children with special educational needs and disabilities who require an additional focus of support in their practical and sensory level to ensure we address the individual educational needs and small group activities to create an environment where they children flourish.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Small group activities – It would be great to have an additional separate space for small group activities. Small group activities allow early years practitioners to set up groups based on the interests and abilities of children. High quality early years settings recognise that in small groups each child has more opportunity to talk, be heard and give meaningful feedback. Children’s comments can be exchanged more easily because of the limited number of children. Small group activities offer us unique opportunities for children to receive the individualised attention that may not be possible in large groups. We already know that one of the most significant benefits of small groups is the impact it can have on children’s language and development. The reduction in background noise increases children’s opportunity to listen to the practitioner and to what other children say, which support’s the development of oral comprehension. Our grouping of children is planned to accomplish this goal.
Steps to get it done:
The Preschool is very committed to providing an Inclusive Environment for children. An additional multifunctional space can also be a calm quiet space for children and create a therapeutic environment in which children would thrive. With the use of soft seating, beanbags and cushions we can make this space possible. Ferring Funtime Pre-school is run by a committee of parents, local people and staff members, they are a committed, passionate group. The school is a fantastic place for 2-4 year olds to begin their journey to independence and have the best start in life and the staff creates a loving, supportive, educational environment. We hope this application meets the criteria needed for a grant to fulfill our vision of additional space for our children.
