New Funding Window

As part of this programme, there are two funding windows a year, launching in February and July.

The current funding window is open with a deadline of the 15th of April to apply. This means that you need to have your project created on Spacehive, applied to the Community Recovery Fund and be ready to begin your crowdfunding campaign by this date.

1) Create a project page
Head to spacehive.com/create to get started.
You’ll need to register for an account and share your project idea. 

2) Apply for council funds
The Spacehive platform will match you to the council funds available through the programme based on your project location. Here you will need to answer some questions from the council regarding your project. 

3) Get your project verified

Before you can start crowdfunding, your project is checked to ensure all of the necessary permissions and governance are in place. You will need to supply quotes for the main cost items in your project budget. See the help centre here for verification guidance. Remember to add any pre-campaign funds to demonstrate existing support to the project, see the help centre here for guidance.

4) Start crowdfunding
Once your crowdfunding campaign is launched on the Spacehive platform, start raising funds to demonstrate local support. A typical crowdfunding campaign runs for 6-12 weeks. Spacehive offers guidance here to help you achieve your crowdfunding target. If you are successful in receiving a council donation, it will be added to your crowdfunding campaign.

5) Hit your target and deliver your project
Projects must hit their crowdfunding target in order to receive the council donation. Once you hit your crowdfunding target, you’ll receive your funds within a few weeks and you can start delivering your project.

6) Deliver and complete an impact report

Once crowdfunding is complete, deliver your project within six months and complete an impact report on Spacehive. This is mandatory and shares your success with backers and the council.

As part of this programme the council has two funds available to support crowdfunding campaigns. The funds can support both capital and revenue elements. 

1) Community Recovery Fund

• 90k revenue budget - up to £5k per project, capped at 50% of the campaign target
• £75k capital budget - up to £10k per project, capped at 50% of the campaign target

2) Community Infrastructure Levy Fund

• £30k capital fund -  up to £5k per project, capped at 50% of the campaign target

If a project requires both revenue and capital funding, the council can contribute from both funds, up to a maximum of £20,000, no more than 65% of the campaign target.

* The council reserves the right to pledge higher amounts at its discretion. 

** Pre-campaign funds and In-kind support are not included in the calculation of the council percentage pledge.

Community Recovery Fund

We are looking for projects that:

• Empower the Tamworth community bringing different communities together, removing barriers and providing infrastructure and support where it is needed.
• Develop a sense of belonging and raise awareness of the diversity of the Tamworth community
• Support the development of organisations working with under-represented groups to increase their engagement and involvement.
• Support and promote initiatives that highlight the positive contribution made by different communities and ensure they have a wide cross-community appeal.
• Help facilitate and support events that bring different communities together creating opportunities to promote new and different exchanges that bridge understanding and give opportunities to bond.
• Create and promote volunteering opportunities that bring different people together with a focus on younger and older people, including opportunities to bring those groups together.

Eligibility Criteria

The funding is available to voluntary and community groups, charities, not-for-profit organisations and faith groups (N.B. faith groups applying for funding should ensure that the activities they are offering are open to all and demonstrate a wide community benefit).

• Community Voluntary Sector organisations can partner with schools for a project but the project must demonstrate a wider community benefit. The funding cannot support projects that schools are statutorily required to deliver.
• ​Projects must encourage cohesion, trust, integration or understanding across different communities in Tamworth.
• Projects must show a willingness to work in partnership and communicate well with other relevant organisations

• Organisations must be properly constituted, and a copy of the constitution will be required.
• Organisations must have a bank account with at least two signatories, who are not related or co-habiting, a copy of the organisation’s most recent bank statement must be submitted with the application.
• Organisations must provide a safeguarding policy if working with children / vulnerable adults at risk.
• Organisations must undertake appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service checks inline with government guidance DBS checks: detailed guidance - GOV.UK
• Organisations must have an equality and diversity policy/statement.
• Organisations must be inclusive and allow access to, or use/participation by, the general public. Membership should not be refused on the grounds of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, and occupation, religious, political or other beliefs. An organisation which supports individuals based on a protected characteristic should demonstrate they are inclusive on all other grounds.
• Organisations must have adequate insurance in place.

Additional criteria for Capital funding

• Organisations and properties benefitting from the fund must be within the boundary of the borough of Tamworth.
• The property in the proposal must be either owned by the organisation or there must be a long-term lease (at least 5 years) in place and have permission for the work to be carried out
• The proposal must in some way improve the property to enable it to be used in a more diverse and inclusive manner.

What can't we fund (applies to both revenue and capital projects):​​

• Individuals
• Private businesses
• Projects supporting private interests / profit making organisations.​
• Projects excluding any particular groups in society or those with protected characteristics.​
• Proposals from political groups.​
• Projects that promote particular religions/faiths/political ideologies not considered to be inclusive.
• We are not able to match fund Statutory provision, Local Authority teams or Council projects.
• We can not fund an organisation's ongoing running costs or salaries but can support, where appropriate, elements which are directly related to the delivery of a project.

• Provide, improve, replace, operate or maintain infrastructure within Tamworth.

• Assist in addressing the demands that development places on Tamworth.

Eligibility Criteria

The funding is available to voluntary and community groups, charities, not-for-profit organisations and faith groups (N.B. faith groups applying for funding should ensure that the activities they are offering are open to all and demonstrate a wide community benefit).

• Schools can apply in partnership with a Community Voluntary Sector organisation. Projects must demonstrate a wider community benefit. The funding cannot support projects that schools are statutorily required to deliver.
