New Funding Window

As part of this programme, there are two funding windows a year, launching in January and June.

The current funding window is open with a deadline of the 30th of September to apply. This means that you need to have your project created on Spacehive, applied to the Community Recovery Fund and be ready to begin your crowdfunding campaign by this date.

Access Tamworth Borough Council funds
Spacehive will connect you exclusively with Tamworth Borough Council Funds on the platform. Here you will need to answer some key questions from the council regarding your project. Work with Spacehive to develop your project idea and put yourself in the best possible position to secure a contribution. 

 

Share and collect pledges
Once your crowdfunding campaign is up and running, share your campaign via as many means possible, both online and offline. Start by securing support from your backers in the form of lots of small pledges to demonstrate local buy-in for your project. That’s what the council will want to see when they assess your project idea and hopefully make a pledge towards your campaign. 

Hit your target and deliver your project
Once you hit your crowdfunding target, you’ll receive your funds within a few weeks and you can start delivering your project.

Along with pledges from the wider community towards your crowdfunding campaign, the borough council has created the Community Recovery Fund which can be used to support both capital and revenue elements of projects. 

• 90k Revenue Budget - Council can pledge up to £5k per project capped at 50% of the campaign target. 
• £75k Capital Budget - Council can pledge up to £5k per project capped at 50% of the campaign target

If a project requires both revenue and capital funding, the council can contribute from both funds, up to a maximum of £10,000, no more than 65% of the campaign target.

* The council reserves the right to pledge higher amounts at its discretion. 

** Pre-campaign funds and In-kind support are not included in the calculation of the council percentage pledge. 

We are looking for projects that:

• Empower the Tamworth community bringing different communities together, removing barriers and providing infrastructure and support where it is needed.
• Develop a sense of belonging and raise awareness of the diversity of the Tamworth community
• Support the development of organisations working with under-represented groups to increase their engagement and involvement.
• Support and promote initiatives that highlight the positive contribution made by different communities and ensure they have a wide cross-community appeal.
• Help facilitate and support events that bring different communities together creating opportunities to promote new and different exchanges that bridge understanding and give opportunities to bond.
• Create and promote volunteering opportunities that bring different people together with a focus on younger and older people, including opportunities to bring those groups together.

Eligibility Criteria

The funding is available to voluntary and community groups, charities, not-for-profit organisations and faith groups (N.B. faith groups applying for funding should ensure that the activities they are offering are open to all and demonstrate a wide community benefit).

• Community Voluntary Sector organisations can partner with schools for a project but the project must demonstrate a wider community benefit. The funding cannot support projects that schools are statutorily required to deliver.
• ​Projects must encourage cohesion, trust, integration or understanding across different communities in Tamworth.
• Projects must show a willingness to work in partnership and communicate well with other relevant organisations

• Organisations must be properly constituted, and a copy of the constitution will be required.
• Organisations must have a bank account with at least two signatories, who are not related or co-habiting, a copy of the organisation’s most recent bank statement must be submitted with the application.
• Organisations must provide a safeguarding policy if working with children / vulnerable adults at risk.
• Organisations must undertake appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service checks inline with government guidance DBS checks: detailed guidance - GOV.UK
• Organisations must have an equality and diversity policy/statement.
• Organisations must be inclusive and allow access to, or use/participation by, the general public. Membership should not be refused on the grounds of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, and occupation, religious, political or other beliefs. An organisation which supports individuals based on a protected characteristic should demonstrate they are inclusive on all other grounds.
• Organisations must have adequate insurance in place.

Additional criteria for Capital fund

• Organisations and properties benefitting from the fund must be within the boundary of the borough of Tamworth.
• The property in the proposal must be either owned by the organisation or there must be a long-term lease (over 10 years) in place and have permission for the work to be carried out
• The proposal must in some way improve the property to enable it to be used in a more diverse and inclusive manner.

What can't we fund (applies to both funds):​​

• Individuals
• Private businesses
• Projects supporting private interests / profit making organisations.​
• Projects excluding any particular groups in society or those with protected characteristics.​
• Proposals from political groups.​
• Projects that promote particular religions/faiths/political ideologies not considered to be inclusive.
• We are not able to match fund Statutory provision, Local Authority teams or Council projects.

What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a way of raising money for a project or cause from a broader group of people or organisations who all contribute towards the target goal with individual financial contributions.

Anyone can pledge money to a project to help reach a fundraising target; from friends, family members and colleagues, to local businesses, large enterprises, councils and foundations.

At Spacehive we focus on fundraising for civic community projects. Our platform enables individuals or groups to crowdfund for ideas that benefit the local community.

What are the advantages of crowdfunding on Spacehive?

Spacehive is the only dedicated community fundraising platform in the UK and Ireland. It’s completely free to set up your own fundraising page, so you can get started today.

Nearly 90% of projects reach their fundraising goal on Spacehive, which is more than any other crowdfunding site. So far, over £32 million has been raised to crowdfund local community projects across the UK and Ireland.

How do I start a crowdfunding project and raise funds?

It’s easy. Start by creating your project page for free on www.spacehive.com/create. From there you can get your idea verified, pitch to our funding partners, and start your crowdfunding campaign.

How do people pledge to my project?

People can pledge by visiting your project page on Spacehive.com and clicking the “Back this project” button. They will then authorise a payment to you using Stripe. If your project is not successful all pledges will be refunded to backers. For more information click here.

When will we get the money we raise?

The pledges from your campaign will be transferred to you after your campaign ends. If you receive a pledge from Tamworth Borough Council, then you must hit your funding target in order to receive it. Our funding is tied to the specific outcomes of the project so if you don’t hit your target, our pledge will be removed and you will receive the remaining amount. Once you hit your target funds will take up to 2 weeks to arrive in your bank account.

How do people pledge to my project?

People can pledge by visiting your project page on Spacehive.com and clicking the “Back this project” button. You will be able to pledge to campaigns via debit/credit card, BACS or Direct Debit.

Are there any fees to use Spacehive?
Spacehive do not charge a fee to register your project, however, Spacehive does charge a success fee if projects successfully reach their fundraising target. There are also transactions fees. All fees are included within the project budget and clearly displayed. These can be viewed here.
