Fibre Broadband for Mounts Chase/Acorns

Raising funds to install 1000Mbps capable broadband across The Acorns/Mounts Chase Estate in Shirley!

The idea

This crowdfund project is to raise money to install gigabit (1000Mbps) capable fibre to the properties of the Mounts Chase estate in Shirley.

We have all had to put up with dire broadband speeds since the estate was built and currently there is no immediate end in site to this issue, we are not currently in the plan for the next 7 years.

We have come to an agreement with Openreach where they will fund £64k of the installation, but we need to also raise an additional £29k to make it happen (an average of £150 per property) - if we raise an excess then it will be put towards new park equipment for the estate.

If we do not reach the £29k amount then your money won't be taken and the project will not proceed.

This fund is being coordinated by Berry Maud Fibre CIC (Community Interest Company) run by Martyn Compton of 58 Berry Maud Lane.

The funding target also includes the costs of the crowdfunding platform and a small amount for a leafleting campaign across the estate.

What we'll deliver

  • Deployment of fibre to the property broadband across the estate

Why it's a great idea

We've all been strugging with working from home this year, and our broadband on the estate has made it far more painful than it needs to be - this project would deliver 1000Mbps capable connections to every property on the estate (about 200 times faster than our current connections) with free access to any provider via the openreach fibre network!
