Morecambe Biennial of Creativity - involving different groups, making a ground up arts initiative that provides a model for activity in a post-work society. Venues to date - Winter Gardens and Morecambe Town Library. If you know people from other groups (music, film, poetry, dance, drama, craft, photography, literature, food etc) who would like to take a key role in making that section of a local based biennial happen then please let us know. Our aim is to reclaim the term "local artist" as one of pride (as opposed to "global artist") and to remove the prejudice of yokel from the local. Our funding will be distributed equally between the creatives involved.
What we'll deliver:
- Connecting different arts venues and groups in the area for a weekend of activities.
- An evening presentation of awards for local artists.
- Hiring venues - Winter Gardens, Morecambe Library, Arndale Centre and others
- Creating advertising and promotion of local talent
Why it's a great idea:
Local artists are often side lined by festivals and events where outside artists are brought in to provide art or training. The local artists never see the benefits of this. The biennial is about promoting existing local talent in the area, to create encouragement for anyone to get involved in the arts and to recognise and value local contributions to both the arts economy and the wider Morecambe economy. The arts covered include visual art, music, dance, film, photohgraphy, theatre and performance.
Steps to get it done:
- securing all interested venues, contacts and commitiments
- producing extensive advertising literature, posters and banners
- creating an online campaign
- creating extensive press coverage - local, regional and national
I have a track record of providing arts and dance exhibitions and events in the local community. I have organised and run the Morecambe Bay Art Fair for the past 3 years and also a number of vintage festivals. I've exhibited art internationally and have work in permanent collections in museums and galleries. I am well connected with many artists in Morecambe who feel disenfranchised with current art provision and all feel a need to have an event like the Morecambe Biennial to showcase their talents.
