Mint Street Music Festival is a community music festival, returning for a second year and featuring a wide variety of musical genres, showcasing emerging talent and activities.
Back bigger and better after last summer’s fantastic launch, Mint Street Music Festival is bringing an eclectic mix of sounds to an audience of all ages at Mint Street Park, SE1. The festival is free and runs from 12 noon to 7pm.
Featuring performances varying from Latin to rock‘n’roll, there will be plenty to discover – confirmed acts include The Curious Incident, Pink Cigar, Johnny Freyre & Kalima Project and Double Bangz. With two further stages offering workshops, dance groups, children’s activities and local talent, it will be an event to get involved with too.
There will also be food stalls, a community jumble sale, market stalls, craft activities and a tea tent from Blackfriars Settlement.
The festival has secured funding Peabody and Southwark Council Neighbourhood Fund but remains a low-budget event for its size, run by volunteers. Due to unexpected costs arising we need to secure further funding in order to go ahead with our planned children's activities and performance opportunities for the local community.
In the run-up to the festival we are programming the line-up for three stages, recruiting, organising and training volunteers, promote the festival on and offline, secure the support of local businesses, organise provision of food, toilets, first aid and other festival facilities. We will oversee the festival day including set-up and clearance of the site, seek and collate feedback on the day and afterwards on site and online.
Positive impacts of the festival will be to engage people of all ages, especially children, in music making. It also provides the opportunity for local community organisations and businesses to come together to showcase emerging musical talent.
