Happy Hill Essex is a Not for Profit organisation that provides recreational activity clubs for children with acute additional needs and we would love a minibus to take trips into the community.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
We are kindly asking if you would consider supporting Happy Hill Essex, with a contribution towards the purchase of a 17 seater minibus with a wheelchair lift, to enable Happy Hill to take children with additional needs & complex medical needs on trips and activities in the community. It is our aim to be able to offer every child with additional needs the same play & recreation opportunities as ‘able’ children. Children with additional needs and their families find it difficult to be included and accepted in mainstream society and can become very isolated; this leads to family stress and frustration. Happy Hill Essex aim is to help children and young people with additional needs realise their aspirations and their right to an inclusive community which supports them and their families. Giving the children the opportunity to engage in new and exciting experiences has such a positive outcome to their health & well-being and have the same choices as 'able' children..
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Our children lack the opportunity and social skills to "hang out" with their friends and can become disengaged with their peer groups, they are left feeling isolated and marginalised and instead of growing up and becoming independent our young people regress and become more dependent on their parents. By having a minibus we will be able to go out on many regular activities, our children have told us that they would like to go on different trips instead of being based at our activity centre all the time, our parents have said that they would be really happy, knowing their children are experiencing new things to do, knowing they are in a safe environment with experienced staff. Many parents do not feel confident taking their children to places that are crowded for fear of being 'judged' just because their child looks or behaves differently, Families are encouraged to do similar activities at home which will provide stimulation for the child with special needs.
Steps to get it done:
We offer Saturday Activity Clubs & Holiday Clubs: Children over the age of 8 are offered activities that best suit their individual needs, a one to one Playworker is assigned to all children who require a one to one support for either medical or behavioural needs. The children and young people that access our services have a wide range of medical conditions including those with speech and language difficulties, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, downs syndrome, ADHD, Angleman Syndrome, Amputee’s, ASD, Aspergers Syndrome, Deafness, Developmental Delay, Dyspraxia, Edwards Syndrome, Hypermobility, Hypertonia, Microcephaly, Rett Syndrome, Sensory Integration Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Tuberous Sclerosis, Visual Impairment and some that need palliative care. We are open for Saturday sessions and Holiday Sessions all year and deliver over 500 hours of short breaks for children with additional needs and support for their families. It costs us over £400 per trip to hire a minibus.
