By MenWalkTalk
MenWalkTalk wants to support training more volunteers and provide them with equipment to grow the offer and have more walks available for Men in West Sussex.
Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.
MenWalkTalk is currently happening in Littlehampton/Rustington and Ferring. MenWalkTalk offer a free 'walk and talk group' with the aims and ethos to encourage men to get out, join in a walk, talk openly, and break the stigma around men and mental health. It also aims to build community networks and reduce social isolation by facilitating men’s walk & talk groups on a fortnightly/monthly basis in varying communities and with funding support we can provide Mental Health training opportunities for volunteers to lead their own walks and start offering MenWalkTalk groups in more areas across the county. Linking in with local businesses to provide better links for men and mental health, supporting workplaces to identify better working practices encouraging teams to walk and talk. Also raising a higher profile around Men and Mental Health. MenWalkTalk also makes sure that men are signposted to local specialist support, following government safeguarding adults policy when appropriate.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
MenWalkTalk is promoting leisure activities as walking in nature is beneficial for physical and mental well being, a light-leisurely walk has been proven to support an increase in mood and by facilitating conversations with someone who is Mental Health Aware, we want to provide some positive coping strategies and signpost to further support if necessary. Increasing volunteer development and recruitment supports community cohesion and development and also confidence for those who are seeking employment. MenWalkTalk wants to reduce social isolation by facilitating these walking groups and also reduce suicide in men by having conversations with members of the public as well as participants. By having conversations about suicide more frequently it will reduce the stigma relating to suicide.
