A Memorial Planter for Allerton Road
We want to build a large planter with seating on the Square at Allerton Road, a hitherto neglected grey space. A memorial plaque will dedicate the planter to Covid victims and carers in our area.
About the Project Creator
Allerton in Bloom is a group of volunteers seeking to reinforce a sense of community and improve the local environment. We were constituted in 2008 and have since then installed, planted up and maintained more than 70 planters at Allerton Library, along Allerton Road and Rose Lane. We do twice-yearly plantings with the help of about 15 - 20 volunteers.
In addition to that, we have planted up herb gardens in the grounds of Allerton Library which, when mature, will be sensory gardens for everyone as well as produce a variety of herbs to be available for free to local residents. They will also be able to pick fruits and berries from the fruit trees and berry bushes that we put into the Library grounds.
During the last year, we have added litter picking (by our Litterati) and weedathons to our activities.
For the funds for our plants and maintenance we rely on grants from the Mayoral Neighbourhood Fund and on our community fundraising events, such as coffee mornings, bazaars, stalls at the local Farmers Market and an annual Garden Fête in the Library grounds. For everything else we rely on the efforts and goodwill of our committee and supporters.
Our usual fundraising has, of course, been severely limited by the current Covid crisis.
