Punjabi Theatre Academy UK is one of the leading South Asian organisations, promoting culture and creative arts within the community. Having been established for more than 30 years, we have worked with numerous people on a range of light and sound productions. These include local councils such as Ealing and Hounslow, Arts Council, Heritage Lottery Fund, Near Neighbours and Let's Go Southall.
We've produced theatre productions on historical figures and events, as well as touching other subjects such as alcoholism, which is common in South Asian communities. Having taken our productions all over the UK and even internationally, we want to continue sharing our passion for creative arts and cultural heritage.
We’re always looking for ways to serve our community, and more recently this has included working with a local food bank distributing supplies to those in need. During lockdown, we have moved our work online and have held a children’s poetry competition, as well as fortnightly Zoom programmes as a way for people to communicate with others and feel less isolated and lonely.
While we hope to direct and perform live theatre shows soon, we’re working on ways to combine our knowledge and theatre experience with local people to create a collaborative project.
Through this project, the academy would like to promote and highlight Southall's unique character, as it is a very diverse and multicultural place.
