We opened the Malvern Link Community Fridge in February this year. Since then we have seen the need increase significantly. We're currently in the process of collecting food from a wider group of supermarkets - but to do this we need to revamp our kitchen area.
The kitchen was installed in the 1980s and is a hotchpotch of different cabinets with limited storage. We'd like to redo the kitchen and create a better entrance area for people accessing the Community Fridge. We'd also like to offer more cooking demonstrations and workshops and a new kitchen space would allow us to do this. We also need to refurbish our toilet facilities.
What we'll deliver:
- New Community Kitchen
- New Entrance Area
- Increased storage and fridges!
- Refurbished toilets
Why it's a great idea:
At the moment we have a queue every Monday extending out onto the road with people waiting to access the fridge - we are also having to turn down food as we can't store it properly. A new kitchen and entrance area would mean that we could serve more people, more quickly - and increased storage and fridge space would mean that we could open on more days than we currently do.
Steps to get it done:
- Revamp of kitchen
- Extra storage and fridges
- Revamped entrance area
The Community Fridge stops a significant amount of food going to landfill and helps alleviate food poverty in Malvern Link.
