Project GIVE was launched by Community Interest Company (CIC) Inspiring Healthy Choices in September 2018 to tackle the negative impact of period poverty and period stigma in Wolverhampton. We have, to date, collected over 25,000 items to redistribute in to schools and community organisations, we have already taught over 600 pupils aged 14 and under to empower them with the knowledge that they deserve. Over 50% of adults that we surveyed state that they did not know about their periods before they started, this can be a traumatic experience if you're not expecting it!
Period poverty is said to affect 1 in 10 young people, a statistic we wish to eradicate through kindness. We love talking about periods and young people want to learn. Our sessions are age appropriate and fun to be involved in! We understand that periods can be a sensitive issue in many cultures and our trainers are fully equipped to delicately deal with issues and answer questions with confidence.
We are working with many local organisations and key stake holders to make change in our city.
By gaining financial support we can spread the message further and educate people in greener periods, a mostly undiscussed issue, we have the knowledge and the confidence to reduce waste, empower menstruators and drive change.
