Lordship Hub or the Hub as it is affectionately known is a community centre and cafe in the heart of a beautiful park in Tottenham, North London. It's a lovely timber and strawbale building, open 7 days a week and run by a community-led cooperative. It has become a favourite community meeting place, offering good food and drink, a party venue, volunteering opportunities, training courses, fitness and wellbeing classes and lots of fun events and exhibitions.
We have been operating for 18 months and have been sustained only by the generosity of our customers and park users. The day to day tasks of running a busy centre are carried out by a fantastic and growing team of volunteers who work closely with a few staff. We would dearly love to employ more but, despite our obvious success, we cannot yet afford that luxury.
While running the centre as a social enterprise we are also supporting the work of local community groups by offering office, meeting and event space for free or at a significantly reduced rate. We also act as a point of contact for park users and work with them to protect and improve the environment and facilities of the park. At present we are working in partnership with the Council to install a much wanted outdoor gym next to the building. We were integral to its planning and the public consultation process. Basically, we are accepted partners in maintaining and developing the park.
